Why I went into private practice?

There are a few reasons I decided to open a private practice psychiatry clinic.

I have worked for others most of my adult life. In doing that I have always felt this unspoken pressure to tone down my self-expression. Cover up the tattoos, hide the piercings, and don’t present too queer. I was at a point in life where I just needed to be myself in and out of work

Though, probably the most important reason was patient care. Patients are not just numbers, and revenue to me. I wanted to be able to provide the kind of care I would want for myself.

I am now able to spend as much time with my patients as we both need to address their concerns, without pressure from others.

I am also able to have some flexibility in my schedule to allow space for clients to be seen same day in many situations.

I can focus on my patients, and make them feel seen and heard and this has made all the difference in my career satisfaction.

Providing care that is focused on my patient’s unique needs is my top priority.
